Overview
The game with a loyal community—and a UI that looked like it was stuck in 2015.
Krunker.io had (and still has) an incredibly loyal community, but they were hungry for updates, new content, and a season that had been promised but never delivered. As Lead Game Designer, I rallied the team to tackle our debts to the players and start delivering the meaningful content they deserved. We created a roadmap for Season 7, focusing on new cosmetic items, and planned Season 8 to bring the big guns: new game modes, a ranking system, improved matchmaking to deal with cheaters and exploits, and a complete UI/UX overhaul (because, let’s be honest, it needed it). I worked with Economy and Systems designers to revamp monetization, add new game modes, improve gameplay, and balance weapons. I also collaborated with 2D and 3D artists to create assets for cosmetics, weapons, and UI, and worked closely with UI/UX designers to drag the interface into the modern era. It was an iterative process—and still ongoing—but the results were worth it. When Season 7 dropped, thousands of new players joined, and many long-time AFK players came back to check out the updates. The reception was overwhelmingly positive, and it gave us the momentum to dive into Season 8 (the big one). Who knew all it took to revive a community was some shiny cosmetics and a matchmaking system that didn’t make you want to rage quit?
